Inspite of best efforts by best of the people both in New York and Mauritius, Sri Lanka and Malaysia, the two GOPIOs have not become one. I have a proposal to reorganise GOPIO.

1. There should be only 1(one)GOPIO with headquarters (call it the main Secretariat) at New Delhi.

2. A whole floor can be rented out by GOPIO International and all of them— PIOs from America, Malaysia, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Belgium, Netherlands or Australia and New Zealand can come, stay,communicate, plan, execute and publicise their efforts and ideology.

3. The International President, from whichever country he is chosen, will operate from New Delhi.

4. The post of International President can be for two years. It can be rotational.

5. GOPIO International (with headquarters in Delhi) can have chapters in several places—say, New York, Brussels, London, Kuala Lumpur, Port Louis, Durban etc.

6. I have suggested New Delhi because it is where the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs is located. They form the policies. There are logistic advantages of this.

7. PIOs from all over the world would naturally like to travel to India for various deliberations. It will help India also as tourist traffic will increase.

IMPORTANT

My suggestion should be put up before the Pravasi Bharatiya delegates who are meeting in Chennai next month, in the early part of January, 2009 and also before the GOPIO International delegates who also meet in India around the same time--for a dispassionate, selfless discussion in the wider interest of such a vast ocean of humanity whose latest slogan is that today the Sun does not set on the Indian diaspora.
