| The
number of NRI parents in India is increasing, Either they have run
a successful business in USA, Canada, Britain, Australia or Germany
and after handing over their business to their gown-up children, have
returned to India for their old age or there are those whose children
have gone abroad and they are left lonely in Indian towns.
A highly educated couple felt their pain and needs and have returned
to India to run ‘ Door step Doctors’ service. This is
India’s first house healthcare service for NRIs. Started four
month ago Doorstep Doctors group is the outcome of a survey conducted
by Dr. Sanjeev Ganguly and his wife Mahua Ganguly, among 200 NRIs
last year. ‘We found that health care needs of ageing parents
is the greatest problem, second only to security concerns. The children
abroad are willing to assume responsibility for their parents' medical
needs. ‘So we go to the parents, instead of calling them to
the clinic.’
Very comprehensive checks like blood-sugar test, liver and kidney
function tests, ECG and screening for prostrate cancer, arthritis,
gout are routine. For people with multiple disorders doctors visit
more often.
Brand new India ! Let us hope it works in all major cities.
