A 21-member
Trade delegation from Suriname visited India during November 24
to December 6. The delegation was organized by SITPO, Suriname-India
Investment Trade Promotion Organisation, and was headed by chairman
Dr. Rajen Pahladsingh.
The Ambassador of Suriname Mr. Krishnedat Bajnath hosted a reception
in honour of the delegation at Hotel Le Meridean on the eve of National
Day of Suriname on November 25.
A Business seminar was organized on 27th November at PHD Chamber
of Commerce and Industry. Speakers from SITPO, MEA, Ministry of
Commerce, Exim Bank, FISME and PHDCCI deliberated on ways and means
of increasing trade and investment between India and Suriname. PHDCCI
and FISME signed two MOU’s with SITPO.
The delegates visited the India International Trade fair and were
highly impressed with the Industrial and Economic development of
India. They also visited Pune and Chennai.
They have shown keen interest in joint ventures in Agro based industries,
IT and Education sector.
Gopal Arora, Joint Secretary-ARSP, organized a meeting at Faculty
of Management Studies, New Delhi for possible areas of cooperation
including visits by faculty members to Suriname.
Suriname is a beautiful country in South America with more than
175,000 PIOs who have reverently preserved the tenets of Indian
culture. This is the only country in Caribbean where Bhojpuri is
widely spoken.
